About Mylands

Royal Warrant holder to the British Crown, trusted by the world's great film studios, guardian of palaces, museums and stately homes - and now at your door, anywhere in France.

Colour, the family trade

Since 1884 and across six generations, the Myland family has made its paints in one place: London. The capital's last remaining paint manufacturer - and Britain's oldest still in the hands of its founding family - Mylands still grinds its colours from natural earths and minerals, to recipes handed down from workshop to workshop.

What hasn't changed: the standards. What has: everything else. The house that once served Victorian cabinetmakers now dresses film sets, royal residences and museums - and, from our warehouse in Occitanie, French interiors too.

By Appointment to the Crown

The royal seal

Two reigns, one mark of trust. In 1985, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II granted Mylands the Royal Warrant - the official seal of supplier to the Royal Household. Forty years on, His Majesty King Charles III has renewed the distinction: the house is today the only British manufacturer of decorative paints and polishes to hold the royal seal.

More than an honour, the Royal Warrant is a standing obligation: every holder must account for the provenance of its raw materials, demonstrate impeccable quality, and deliver a credible plan towards carbon neutrality. Demands which happen to describe, quite simply, the way we have worked for a hundred and forty years.

The West Norwood factory

Every pot is born in London. In our works at West Norwood, south of the Thames, pigments are weighed, binders prepared and every shade checked by eye as well as by machine - before the pots are filled, sealed and labelled on site. No outsourced production, no licensed manufacturing: whatever bears the Mylands name leaves our own walls.

Making everything under one roof is our strongest quality guarantee. It gives us complete control of every ingredient, from pigment drum to finished pot, and lets the family's sixth generation - Harvey, alongside his father Dominic - watch over the recipes the way one watches over an inheritance.

The film, television & theatre division

Colour takes to the screen

On set before Pinewood existed. As early as 1928, the workshop's order books filled with formulas for British Lion and London Films; in 1939, Warner Bros ordered its special thinners there. Nearly a century later, our Film, TV & Theatre division still supplies the world's most demanding set decorators.

High-coverage scenic paints, glazes, varnishes and flame-retardant finishes engineered for studio and stage safety standards: these technical products, proven under the spotlights, feed their lessons back into our decorative paints.

References beyond reproach

Palaces, museums & stately homes

Where the setting forgives nothing. From royal residences to museum galleries, from art institutions to historic houses, restorers and decorators choose Mylands for the depth of its natural pigments and the nobility of its finishes - qualities that show precisely where every detail counts.

Our breathable paints and shades patiently archived since 1884 make it possible to revive a listed interior or compose a contemporary scheme with the same accuracy of colour that has earned us the trust of conservators and heritage architects.

Our commitments

Quality, without compromise

Making sumptuous paint is not enough for us: we want it healthy for those who apply it, safe for those who live with it, and kind to the walls it dresses. A demanding balance - and one we hold without ever compromising on depth of colour.

Water-based

All our decorative paints are water-based: easy application, low odour, fast drying and solvent-free cleaning of brushes and tools.

Non-toxic

Low in VOCs and safe once dry - certified to the EN 71-3 toy-safety standard, they are as much at home in a child's bedroom as in a living room.

Fire resistance

Born of studio and theatre requirements, our flame-retardant finishes protect sets and joinery - while remaining water-based.

Marble & natural pigments

Generously dosed natural earths and minerals, with crushed Carrara marble for resilience and light: the ingredients make the difference.

Our responsibility

Preserving heritage, sustainably

A house that paints monuments cannot mortgage the future. For Mylands, sustainability is no afterthought: it is the very condition of preservation - of the buildings we dress, and of the world around them.

Made in London, traced end to end

A single factory, short supply chains and traceability for every ingredient - transparency the Royal Warrant demands, alongside our commitment to a plan towards carbon neutrality.

Materials given a second life

The crushed Carrara marble in our emulsions comes from the stone industry's offcuts; our newest plant-based formulas exceed fifty per cent bio-based ingredients.

Walls that breathe

Our breathable paints let old masonry live rather than sealing it in - the best life insurance there is for buildings of character, past and future.

Recipes made to last

A paint that lasts twenty years pollutes less than one redone five times. We formulate for longevity: that is our definition of sustainability.
