Colour ideas & inspiration for the bathroom
Long treated as a purely practical room, the bathroom has become one of the most rewarding places in the house to use colour. Its volumes are compact, its light precious, and its materials — marble, brass, ceramic — look magnificent against a deep shade: everything about it invites you to be bolder than anywhere else.

Which colours work in a bathroom?
A bathroom is rarely painted in a single colour. In almost every scheme below one shade carries the walls and panelling, a second lifts the ceiling and cornice, and a third dresses the vanity unit: it is that gap between three values, rather than the intensity of the lead colour, that gives the room its depth.
For an enveloping bathroom, deep greens remain our most requested shades: Deep Green FTT-012 and Sorrel Green No.207 on the walls, Myrtle Green No.168 for a quieter version. Among the blues, Proper Blue No.67 holds evening lamplight remarkably well, while Ultra Violet FTT-019 turns a small shower room into a room with real character.
If you would rather open the space up, Greenwich Time No.8, St Clement No.11 and Limestone No.55 are the whites and stones our schemes use most often on ceilings; Saint Johns No.64, Frieze No.84 and The Boltons No.28 give soft greys that never turn cold under mirror lighting.
