Colour ideas & inspiration for the bedroom
The bedroom is where colour works hardest for you: it must calm the evening, flatter the morning light and wrap everything it holds. Powdery or deep, there are no rules here — only atmospheres.
Below are our bedroom schemes: complete combinations — walls, ceilings, woodwork, bedheads and wardrobes — composed from our colours, from the softest off-whites to the most enveloping greens and blues.
“The last colour you see at night and the first on waking: in a bedroom, the right shade changes everything.”
Which colours work in a bedroom?
A bedroom is judged twice a day: on waking, in candid light, and again in the evening by lamp. The shades that survive both tests are rarely the most saturated — they are the ones with a little grey or earth in the mix, which darken handsomely rather than shifting hue.
For a soft, light bedroom our schemes return again and again to Greenwich Time No.8, Holbein Chamber No.7, Sleet No.91 and St Clement No.11: off-whites that never read as clinical, paired with Limestone No.55 overhead. A tone further on, Saint Johns No.64, Frieze No.84 and The Boltons No.28 bring the warm grey that flatters bed linen and pale timber.
For a more enveloping bedroom — the kind where you want the evening light to settle — look at Deep Green FTT-012, Westmoreland No.160, Blueprint No.50 and Iron Grey FTT-014: taken across walls, ceiling and woodwork in one shade, they erase the corners and make the room read larger rather than smaller.
And the bedrooms that commit to colour: Shocking Pink FTT-006 and Plum Tree No.283 are spectacular on a bedhead or the inside of a wardrobe, in measured doses.
