Off black paint
A deep, off black paint colour with a barely perceptible red undertone, Blackout is a powerful and atmospheric shade named in memory of wartime London, when city lights were dimmed and streets were cloaked in shadow. Softer and more nuanced than a true black, it captures the quiet drama and resilience of that era.
Rich and enveloping, Blackout creates depth without the severity of pure black paint. Its subtle warmth allows it to sit comfortably in a wide range of interiors, making it a perfect choice for those seeking impact.
Whether used across walls for a bold effect or on woodwork and cabinetry in Plant Based Multi Surface Dead Matt for sharp definition, it brings elegance, confidence, and a sleek, tailored finish to a space. Blackout is especially effective as an accent colour, adding drama and definition to a room with lighter or softer shades, or when used to emphasise mouldings, shelving, or statement furniture pieces. Dramatic yet sophisticated, Blackout is a luxury off black paint colour designed to deliver timeless style, depth, and quiet theatricality to both classic and modern interiors.

Product data & safety sheets
Every Mylands paint is water-based and contains only trace levels of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) - far below what regulations allow. In practice, that means very little odour while you paint, quick drying between coats, and brushes and rollers that rinse clean in warm soapy water, with no need for white spirit.
Once fully dry, the finish is certified to EN 71-3:2019, the European toy-safety standard, so it can be used with confidence in nurseries, children's bedrooms and playrooms - even on painted toys, cots and furniture - and in homes with pets.
As with any paint, keep the room well ventilated while you work and let surfaces dry completely before children and animals return.
Mylands water-based paints are among the gentler decorative finishes you can bring into a home, but the usual common-sense precautions still apply:
- Keep paint out of the reach of children and away from food and drink.
- Ventilate the room well during application and drying.
- Avoid contact with skin and eyes. If paint gets into the eyes, rinse thoroughly with clean water and seek medical advice if irritation persists.
- If swallowed, rinse the mouth and drink plenty of water, then seek medical advice with the tin or label to hand.
- Like most water-based paints, the formulation contains small amounts of preservative, which may produce an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals.
Store tins upright, tightly closed, somewhere cool and frost-free. Never pour leftover paint down the drain: allow residues to dry out, then take them - tin included - to your local household-waste collection point.
