Traditional White Paint
A serene and traditional white paint with the faintest grey undertone, Maugham White is a quietly sophisticated shade originally created for a restoration project and named in honour of Syrie Maugham, the pioneering British interior decorator who defined the all-white interiors of the 1920s and 1930s. Her visionary approach transformed white from a purely practical finish into an expression of modern elegance, a legacy honoured by this colour.
Fresh yet composed, Maugham White offers clarity without starkness. Its subtle grey note lends a gentle softness, allowing the colour to sit beautifully in both traditional and contemporary settings. The result is a white that feels calm and balanced.
Exceptionally versatile, whether used across walls, ceilings, or woodwork, Maugham White brings a sense of effortless order and timeless appeal to a space. Elegant, understated, and endlessly adaptable, Maugham White is a luxury paint colour designed to celebrate light, proportion, and classic interior design.

Product data & safety sheets
Every Mylands paint is water-based and contains only trace levels of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) - far below what regulations allow. In practice, that means very little odour while you paint, quick drying between coats, and brushes and rollers that rinse clean in warm soapy water, with no need for white spirit.
Once fully dry, the finish is certified to EN 71-3:2019, the European toy-safety standard, so it can be used with confidence in nurseries, children's bedrooms and playrooms - even on painted toys, cots and furniture - and in homes with pets.
As with any paint, keep the room well ventilated while you work and let surfaces dry completely before children and animals return.
Mylands water-based paints are among the gentler decorative finishes you can bring into a home, but the usual common-sense precautions still apply:
- Keep paint out of the reach of children and away from food and drink.
- Ventilate the room well during application and drying.
- Avoid contact with skin and eyes. If paint gets into the eyes, rinse thoroughly with clean water and seek medical advice if irritation persists.
- If swallowed, rinse the mouth and drink plenty of water, then seek medical advice with the tin or label to hand.
- Like most water-based paints, the formulation contains small amounts of preservative, which may produce an allergic reaction in sensitive individuals.
Store tins upright, tightly closed, somewhere cool and frost-free. Never pour leftover paint down the drain: allow residues to dry out, then take them - tin included - to your local household-waste collection point.
