Mylands Colours Featured at the de Gournay New York City Showroom

To celebrate the relaunch of de Gournay's NYC showroom, Mylands is delighted to have worked with the hand-painted and hand-embroidered wallcovering specialists on a complementary colour palette.

Mylands is delighted to have collaborated with de Gournay, the internationally acclaimed purveyor of exquisite hand-painted wallpapers and fabrics, for the grand reopening of its New York City showroom. Set in the heart of the city's storied design district, the reimagined showroom exemplifies de Gournay's dedication to exceptional artistry and craftsmanship, and Mylands worked closely with its design team to create a delightful palette that complements the very finest hand-painted wallpapers and hand-embroidered fabrics.

Bringing together two family-owned businesses with a passion for excellence and craft, the showroom offers visitors an immersive experience across eleven distinct rooms, each interwoven with its own themes and stories. Mylands colours run throughout, featuring on ceilings, accents, cornices and woodwork to complement the intricate hand-painted wallpapers. The entryway, enveloped in the hand-painted 'Central Park' scenic wallpaper, celebrates one of the city's most beloved landmarks and is crowned with a 'Celestial Atlas', an enchanting homage to Grand Central Station's distinctive vaulted ceiling, rendered entirely in intricate hand-embroidery and hand-beading.

An extraordinary rendition of 'St Laurent' hangs in the showroom's porcelain lounge; one of de Gournay's most visually dense chinoiserie designs, it's distinct for its finely worked peacocks and doves amid flowering bushes such as peony, prunus, camellia and chrysanthemum.

Inspired by antique panels belonging to Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, the brand's interpretation keeps the full drama and grand scale of the original, and the ceiling cornice, joinery, skirting and portal feature the iconic Mylands Rothschild Street™ No.296, a deep, rich red with warm orange undertones.

For the main sitting room, wallpapered in de Gournay's iconic 'Erdem' hand-painted in a new colourway, Mylands worked closely with the design team to create a bespoke green echoing the leafy tendrils of wisteria, jasmine and clematis, while Peach Flesh Pink™ No.268 complements the design as an accent, bringing a soft pink hue. The room also features Mylands Lots Road™ No.24, one of our iconic warm neutrals with a hint of yellow ochre.

The chosen colours comprise hues from Mylands' iconic Colours of London collection and Archive collection, alongside bespoke colours created in close partnership with de Gournay's Director, Hannah Cecil Gurney. Notable colours include: Rothschild Street™ No.296, part of the Colours of London collection, a deep, rich red named after the street Mylands is on in West Norwood, London; with undertones of warm oranges and yellows mixed with magentas and blacks, it adds flair, drama and intensity whether on walls, ceilings or accents.

Peach Flesh Pink™ No.268, part of the Archive collection, a pink made up of yellows and reds, impactful yet delicate and so versatile. Walbrook™ No.142, part of the Colours of London collection, named after and inspired by architect Christopher Wren's masterpiece St Stephen Walbrook, a light cream neutral that gives plenty of warmth; with undertones of yellow and orange, it recalls the soft glow of the sun.
