An Autumn Colour Palette for the Home
As the light softens and the leaves turn, it's the perfect moment to warm up your rooms. Discover our favourite autumnal shades for a cosy, characterful home.
There's a particular magic to autumn light, low, golden and forgiving, and it draws us back indoors in search of warmth and comfort. It's the ideal season to reach for richer, deeper colours that feel like a hug as the evenings draw in. Autumn's palette is written by the landscape: burnished ochres, russet reds, mushroomy browns, deep greens and the last golden light through turning leaves. To bring that feeling home, start with a warm, grounding base. An earthy neutral like London Brown™ No.287 or the honeyed Onslow™ No.48 wraps a living room in comfort, while a mushroom pink such as Egerton Place™ No.297 adds soft, seasonal depth to a snug or study. For colour, look to nature's autumn wardrobe: a deep, leafy Messel™ No.39, a spicy Mortlake Red™ No.290, or the golden warmth of Wharf Sacking™ No.127 or Cornhill™ No.128, all of which glow beautifully as the light fades. To make dark, cocooning shades feel truly sumptuous, choose a velvety matt finish and layer in natural texture, wool, timber, linen and a few flickering candles. If you're not ready to repaint whole rooms, autumn is the perfect time for a smaller gesture: a rich accent wall, a colour-drenched cloakroom, or a warm front door to greet you home on darker days. However you approach it, lean into the season's warmth, autumn is colour's most generous time of year.
