Home Office Colours That Help You Focus

2 min read

The colour of your workspace quietly shapes how you feel and think. Here's how to choose shades that support focus, calm and creativity.

With so many of us now working from home, the colour of the office deserves as much thought as any other room, because it genuinely affects how we feel through the working day. There's no single right answer; the best shade depends on the kind of work you do and how you want to feel while doing it. For deep concentration, blues and greens are the classic choice. Blue is widely associated with focus and mental clarity, so a calm mid-blue like Eaton Square™ No.232 or the studious Long Acre™ No.102 makes a steadying backdrop. Green, the colour of nature, is restful and reduces eye strain across long screen hours; Serpentine™ No.192 or Chester Square™ No.199 bring quiet balance. If your work is creative and you want energy, a warmer accent helps, a muted yellow such as Cornhill™ No.128 lifts the mood and brings optimism without overwhelming. For video calls, consider a flattering, characterful backdrop rather than stark white; a soft neutral or a deep bookish shade behind you looks considered on camera. Whatever you choose, pay attention to light and finish: a low-sheen or matt finish reduces glare and screen reflections, which matters more in an office than almost anywhere. And don't forget the fifth wall, painting a ceiling or an alcove a deeper tone can define a focused nook within a multi-use room. Above all, choose a colour you genuinely enjoy being surrounded by, contentment is its own kind of productivity.
