Planet Mark: A Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation

We're proud to share that we've officially achieved Planet Mark certification, recognising our efforts to reduce our environmental impact and build a more sustainable future.

We're proud to announce that Mylands is now Planet Mark Certified, a major step forward in our commitment to sustainability and responsible manufacturing. This certification recognises the meaningful actions we've taken, and continue to take, to reduce our environmental impact while crafting the exceptional paints and polishes we've been known for since 1884.

What is Planet Mark?

Planet Mark is a globally recognised sustainability certification, awarded to businesses actively reducing their carbon footprint. As part of the Planet Mark Net Zero Certification Programme, we're now measuring our carbon emissions across operations and identifying further ways to cut them and work towards net zero.

This achievement is more than a badge; it's a commitment to transparency, accountability and continual improvement in how we operate, and as Britain's oldest family-owned paint manufacturer, we see it as our responsibility to help set a new standard for sustainability in our industry.

Building on a longstanding sustainable legacy

While Planet Mark represents an exciting new chapter, sustainability has long been part of our story. Mylands has crafted high-quality paints and polishes for 140 years, and our focus on sustainable materials and production is evident in our drive towards a circular economy, using efficient resources and natural alternatives where possible.

Plant-based innovation: we were early pioneers in plant-based, multi-surface paints, developed in the 2010s with natural fillers and high bio-carbon content, a true alternative to traditional acrylics. Olive Stone Emulsion: launched in 2023, this innovative paint uses crushed olive stones, a by-product of the olive oil industry, to create a beautiful dead matt finish with less waste.

The Upcycled Collection: as part of our 140th anniversary in 2024, we introduced a curated range made from surplus and sample paints, reimagined into new shades to eliminate unnecessary waste. Marble Matt Emulsion: our signature Marble Matt Emulsion, launched in 2010, contains crushed Carrara marble and offers exceptional coverage (15l/m² versus the standard 10 or 12l/m²), requiring only two coats where most paints need three; this reduces the paint required for a project, and its high durability reduces the need for frequent repainting and therefore overall material use.

Dominic Myland, CEO of Mylands

"Mylands is proud to be Planet Mark Certified. It's an exciting achievement that shows our commitment to sustainability within the paint industry. This internationally recognised certification is the first step towards our goal of reaching net zero." - Dominic Myland, CEO.

Sustainable manufacturing, end to end

At Mylands, sustainability is not an afterthought; it's embedded in every stage of our craft. As a manufacturer with full control over our supply chain, we oversee every detail, from sourcing raw materials to tinting paints and delivering finished products, an autonomy that lets us uphold the highest standards of quality and environmental responsibility without compromise.

All our paints are formulated, blended and tinted to order at our factory in the heart of London, ensuring precision, freshness and minimal waste, and by producing locally and distributing efficiently, particularly for our London-based clientele, we reduce transport emissions and environmental impact.

Our entire range is water-based and ultra-low in VOCs (0.1-0.29%), offering safer, healthier solutions for homes and professionals alike. From our crushed Carrara marble finishes to plant-based and upcycled innovations, every Mylands product is designed to endure beautifully while treading lightly on the planet. In an industry often driven by volume, we choose intention, integrity and intelligent design, crafting paints that reflect our heritage while safeguarding our future.
