Longstanding Mylands partner Dulwich Picture Gallery is presenting its latest exhibition, Soulscapes. Curated by Lisa Anderson, it showcases 30 contemporary works across painting, collage and tapestry by leading artists from the African diaspora. Soulscapes explores the power of landscape and our connection with the world, radiating themes of joy, belonging, memory and transformation.

Artists include Hurvin Anderson, Phoebe Boswell, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Kimathi Donkor, Isaac Julien, Marcia Michael, Mónica de Miranda and Alberta Whittle, alongside a number of today's emerging talents. Mylands is delighted to support each exhibition's narrative with its high-quality paint. Exhibition designer Melanie Mues takes us behind the scenes, discussing the palette and its distinctive split-wall design. FRENCH GREEN™ NO.187

"I was directly inspired by the works in each room, by their mood and colour. As you walk the linear route of the exhibition, you notice a change of mood. Green was the obvious choice for the first room, as it's a classic colour for depicting landscape. The pale green supported the artworks rather than overpowering them. All the colours, in fact, are supporters, not competitors." - Melanie Mues.

French Green™ No.187 is based on a historic colour that played a pivotal part in 19th-century interior design, a soft pastel hue that brings brightness, vibrancy and freshness to any atmosphere; timeless yet stylish, it lends an ever-present injection of lushness and joie de vivre. Pair with a white primer and undercoat.

Floris™ No.27 takes its name from the iconic London perfumery and is a pretty pale pink that envelops a space in sophistication while leaving a striking impression; with an umber undertone, it brings depth and beauty for a dream-inspired feel. Pair with a white primer and undercoat.

"The very pale pink in the next room, 'Memory', was the perfect partner for the green room; the transition looked great. The colour was inspired by Alberta Whittle's work 'Listening to my breath falter, I lay suspended in the gully, trustful' (2023). The soft, dream-like pink staged a very low contrast against the grey in the upper part of the room (the sky), so the whole room felt airy and wide." - Melanie Mues.

BEDFORD SQUARE™ NO.229

"The muted blue of the last room, 'Transformation', brought out the blues in the paintings here. It's a thoughtful, calm room. The paintings are large-scale and immersive, and the wall colour is the ideal backdrop, letting them tell their stories." - Melanie Mues.

SLOANE SQUARE™ NO.92

Stylish, refined and elegant, this classic off-white is named after the London square. It's a perfect neutral for a unique split-wall look; used by many designers, split-wall painting is a great way to add a distinctive feel to a space, making artworks stand out and creating a new narrative, and it can make a room with very high ceilings or a very large room feel warmer and more comfortable.
